Rust server hosting, done right

Rust throws players into a brutal open world where shelter, weapons and alliances are earned and then defended through raids and wipe cycles. Your own Rust server means you control the wipe schedule, gather rates, map and the entire Oxide/Carbon plugin loadout. Pick a plan and your Rust server deploys in under 60 seconds — no manual install, no command line, no shared lobbies. It ships ready for Oxide/uMod and Carbon plugins, so you can shape the server exactly how your community plays.

We run Rust on high-clock AMD Ryzen CPUs with NVMe SSD storage, wrapped in always-on multi-Tbps DDoS protection — for smooth tick rates, fast world loads and single-digit ping. We recommend around 8–16 GB+ of RAM, scaling with players and mods. Plans scale to 50–300+ slots.

Manage everything from a modern control panel: a live console, one-click mod & plugin installer, visual config editor, scheduled automatic backups — plus real 24/7 human support whenever you need it.

Recommended specs for Rust

Rust is a Heavy-class game. For a smooth experience we recommend 8–16 GB+ RAM, scaling with player count and mods. CPU clock speed matters most for tick rate — our high-clock AMD Ryzen hardware keeps Rust fast even under load, and you can upgrade in one click as your community grows.

What Rust needs from a server

How much RAM and CPU a Rust server needs

Facepunch documents a baseline of 12 GB of free RAM for a Rust dedicated server, with a 6k map requiring more, plus 15 GB of free disk space. SSD or NVMe storage is described as highly preferred. LinuxGSM, a separate server-management project, lists its own floor of 9 GB minimum RAM, increasing with map size, a dual-core 3.4 GHz CPU, and 10 Mbps upload bandwidth.

There is no official player-count table to size a plan against. The wiki's guidance is qualitative: server.maxplayers sets the maximum number of players connecting at one time, and the more players you allow, the faster the CPU needs to be. Slot count and map size push on different resources — player count is tied to CPU speed, larger maps to memory and disk.

Mod support: Oxide/uMod and Carbon

Rust plugins do not run on the vanilla build; they need a loader installed on top of the server files. Facepunch points server owners to umod.org for plugin support, and uMod ships separate Oxide builds for Windows servers and Linux servers.

Carbon is the alternative. Its documentation describes it as a modding framework that handles background processing and execution of custom plugins, runs them within Harmony without patches for performance reasons, and is designed so that most Oxide-dedicated plugins work in Carbon's environment.

Ports your plan has to allow

A Rust server uses four ports, and they are not all the same protocol: game traffic and the server browser query run over UDP, while RCON and the Rust+ companion service run over TCP. All four have to be permitted, not just the game port.

Rust+ carries one extra requirement worth checking before you commit: the companion service will not work on a port below 10000, since Facepunch's Rust+ backend cannot reach it there. With no custom ports set, that port works out to 28082.
